Youth Leadership: Opportunities, Challenges, and Possibilities

Youth leadership is an integral part of social justice movements.  From the Birmingham Children's March to the today's Youth organizing for Gun Control, we continue to see the power of youth voices and the opportunities that exist.  However, like all organizing, youth organizing comes with many challenges and possibilities.  How can we engage in our next generation when newly arrived immigrant youths are worried about settling it?  How does globalization and historical trauma affect political education with youth?  In this workshop, we will explore collectively the importance of youth leadership with a focus on newly immigrated youth in Flushing.
