Emily Jin

Emily is a senior at Hunter College High School. Since 8th grade, she has participated in Hunter’s Asian Cultural Society, in which she is currently Co-President, planning meetings and events for Hunter’s Asian American student population in hopes of promoting cultural awareness and inclusivity. In the summer of 2017, she co-founded the Ji’An Summer Immersion Language Program, where she lived with students at a rural Chinese middle school and taught English lessons, which has allowed her to gain experience in communication across language borders. She was inspired to apply for AALFY after attending the 2018 conference, and is truly excited to take part in organizing this year’s conference and create a sense of communal solidarity (which we need especially during these times!). In her free time, Emily loves singing, designing via 3D modeling, running, and cross-stitching.

Yuriko Zhang

Yuriko is a current senior at Hunter College High School. As a longtime Co-Coordinator for Minkwon Community Center’s Youth Empowerment Program, she has headed the Organizing Committee and is currently working on the Flushing Community Fridge. She is also the co-President of her school’s Asian Cultural Society and Hunter Immigrant Youth Alliance. Her dedication to community and passion for dialogue brings her great excitement in being able to make AALFY happen this year. In her free time, she enjoys webtoons, Amy Winehouse, and playing with her 4 cats.

Nicoler Chen

Nicoler is a current junior at Townsend Harris High School. Growing up in Flushing, she developed a passion for joining AAPI discussions. After working on the Citizenship for all campaign through the Minkwon Center Youth Empowerment Program, she became more involved in the discussions surrounding Asian American representation and solidarity. Nicoler was a member of the Events Planning Unit, where she was able to produce an informative video to spread awareness for the campaign. Nicoler is extremely excited to join the AALFY Board this year, and participate in the conversations about Asian American identity and coalitions. During her free time, she enjoys listening to music, baking, and taking long walks.

Daven Chen

Daven is a current junior at Hunter College High School. Ever since joining Minkwon Community Center’s Youth Empowerment Program in 10th grade, he has become increasingly interested in Asian American Activism. He has since joined Minkwon’s Organizing Committee to think and act out more ways to help the community and is presently helping out with the Flushing Community Fridge. In addition to being a member of Minkwon’s organizing committee, he is also a current assistant at his school's Asian Cultural Society. After attending AALFY’s virtual conference in 2020, he was inspired to join the board to help organize this year’s conference which will revolve around Asian-American identity and solidarity! In his free time, Daven likes to listen to music, talk to his friends, and bake.

William Ning

William is a current junior at Hunter College High School. He joined his school’s Asian Cultural Society in ninth grade and has immersed himself in the world of activism ever since. He was an assistant to the board in that year and was one of the two publicity secretaries as a sophomore. On Sunday mornings, William works with the Chinatown Literacy Project, teaching English to elderly first-generation Asian American immigrants. He was motivated to join the AALFY board after attending the 2018 and 2019 conferences, and is incredibly excited to take part in organizing this year’s conference. In his free time, you can find William playing soccer, listening to music, and struggling through his GUSH class.

Frances Leung

Frances is a current senior at Hunter College High School. After attending a political workshop at AALFY in 2019, she was inspired to intern for State Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou, largely doing community-centered work in NYC’s Chinatown. As part of Chinatown Youth Initiative’s 2019 Summer Leadership Institute cohort, she has been facilitating and overseeing the AAPI-focused program for the past two summers, conducting deep dives into Asia America’s intersectionality with anti-Blackness, mental health, and queerness. Especially passionate about truly intersectional and multicultural coalitions, Frances has founded her own POC youth collective, The Nonstandard Project, dedicated to bridging the gaps between all people of color. She loves A24 movies, organizing her Spotify playlists, and a good fantasy novel.

Chris Chen

Chris is a current junior at Hunter College High School. He is thrilled to join AALFY in helping foster and develop conversations about coalition, healing and growth within the AAPI community this year. In addition to being a member of MinKwon Center's Youth Organizing Committee, he is also the publicity secretary of his school's Hunter Immigrant Youth Alliance. He became interested in being part of AALFY after attending their workshops in 2019, and is super excited to be helping organize AALFY's 2021 conference as a member of the board this year. In his free time, he enjoys reading, making origami and playing volleyball!

Cindy Zheng

Cindy is a current junior at Hunter College High School. Since the 8th grade, Cindy has been involved in her school’s Asian Cultural Society (ACS), where she participates in discussions about AAPI issues and works to foster a tight-knit Asian community at her school. As a segment leader in ACS’s Annual Cultural Show, she writes, produces, and directs a short play to communicate a prevalent AAPI theme to the rest of her community, engaging in activism and the celebration of culture through a creative and thought-provoking medium. Cindy cannot be more excited to join the AALFY Board and pursue the exploration of the Asian American identity on a larger-scale basis that encompasses the entire city. In her free time, Cindy enjoys watching her favorite soccer team, Tottenham Hotspur, lose games and prefers the Japanese version of Power Rangers.

Juney Liu

Juney is a current junior at Townsend Harris High School. She started getting more involved Asian American activism when she joined the Youth Empowerment Program at Minkwon Center towards the end of her freshman year. Last year, she became a youth leader in the program and helped facilitate workshops and teach about political campaigns to raise awareness for issues in the community. Most recently, she was a member of the Events Planning Team that organizes events to educate, build solidarity, and spur people to action for the Citizenship for All Campaign. She is also a co-founder and co-president of her school’s Chinese Culture Club. Juney is extremely excited to join the AALFY Board this year and help organize a conference reflecting on AAPI identity and solidarity. During her free time, she likes to explore the outdoors, play badminton, and listen to music.

Aurora Hom

Aurora is a current senior at Brooklyn Technical High School. She is extremely excited to be joining AALFY in promoting solidarity and healing among the AAPI community. Being an officer for Key Club International taught her the importance of service. As part of the Law & Society major at her school, Aurora remains committed to the political process. Now, she is a Team Leader for Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou’s Office. You might find her roaming around NYC canvassing or handing out PPE. She is also a member of MinKwon Center’s Youth Organizing Committee and is currently working with the Flushing Community Fridge, stop by and say hi! When she isn’t volunteering, Aurora spends her time taking photos, playing the clarinet, and exploring new places to eat!
